Mouttet to head five-man Implementation Committee
Prominent businessman Christian Mouttet was yesterday appointed as head of a five-man Implementation Committee whose task will be to assess businesses that are interested in large and medium scale projects to get the economy stimulated in 2018.
The other four members are deputy chairman Richard Young, chairman of the T&T International Finance Centre Management Company Ltd (TTFCMC), Blair Ferguson, Shameer Mohammed, chairman of Caribbean Airlines and Gloria Jones Nape from Tobago.
The announcement was made by Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Stuart Young at yesterday’s Cabinet media briefing at the Diplomatic Centre, St Ann’s.
Young said they have been listening to the private sector who have been lobbying for manufacturing projects to get off the ground.'
“Today, Cabinet has taken a decision to create a body that will be the interface…and the face of the Government that will be going out and interfacing with private enterprise to find out what are the projects they want to do, how Government can assist in getting these projects done and what is needed.”
He said the Government will also do an assessment of the businesses that want to come forward with large medium scale projects in a bid to get the economy going in 2018.
The committee will report to the Office of the Prime Minister, outlining what projects the private sector wants undertaken and how Government can assist in that process.
If there is need to supplement the small team, Young said it will be beefed up.
The media informed Young that there has been criticism about the use of his father (Richard) in various Government matters.
However, Finance Minister Colm Imbert interjected saying it was “unfair to throw that question at Stuart Young.”
Imbert in response said he was satisfied that Young (Richard) has the expertise, competence and qualifications not only to manage the (TTFCMC) but to also assist the Government in terms of its relationship with the private sector and getting things done.
