Severe weather brings flood, fallen trees
There are reports of flash floods in parts of south and central Trinidad as a result of several weather that been affecting the country for the past several hours.
Strong winds knocked over a tree at Palmiste Boulevard and several others along the Southern Main Road in south Trinidad and there are reports of flash flooding along the Brasso/Caparo Valley Main Road.
Chairman of the Penal Debe Regional Corporation Dr Allen Sammy said disaster management teams and councillors were already on the field assessing damages.
Flooding has occurred on the SS Erin Road, Debe and New Colonial Road, Barrackpore. TTEC crews are working to restore electricity where there has been a power outage since 1.30 am.
Chairman of the Couva Tabaquite Talparo Regional Corporation Henry Awong said the Preysal River has overflowed and there is flooding on the Solomon Hochoy Highway near Chase Village.
The T&T Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued an Adverse Weather Warning #1 – Yellow Level for today from 2.45 am to 6 , with street/flash flooding, gusty winds and landslides/landslips exzpected in areas so prone. This is due to an active Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) which is interacting with a low level trough.
People residing or working in flood prone or landslip prone areas are urged to be extra vigilant and to take the necessary steps to preserve life and property.
