Super day set in the Park!
Ciaoadiosimdone is the only alternative to consistent, hitherto luckless, Meccabah in a moderate twelve-runner Maiden Fillies’ Stakes over twelve furlongs of Wolverhampton tapeta today, when another historic feat may well be achieved around this unique Dunstall Park circuit.About ten years ago Hayley Turner became the first female jockey to ride 100 winners in a calendar year when successful on the very last day before going onto group level successes and carving out a hugely successful career; Josephine Gordon will be hoping to replicate her century achievement this afternoon!
Josie has been truly professional and dedicated since (like Hayley) landing the apprentice championship last year. No wonder Newmarket trainer, Hugo Palmer, signed Miss Gordon as a stable jockey earlier this year, she has been a revelation.
Styles of Hayley and Josephine contrast sharply, the former is an absolute natural, a joy to behold aboard thoroughbreds, much like Walter Swinburn all those years ago. Her strong finish is all about balance and superb judgment, very seldom gets beaten in a “set to” close home.
Neither does Josephine Gordon whose determined, manufactured, style also smacks of excellent balance and determined drive, from the outset!
Michael Hills has coached Josephine for nigh on two years, he once said, “I can’t understand why her horses always seem to be pulling!”
He’s right because she invariably has a strong hold but, remarkably, they are settled as the current statistic of 99 undoubtedly proves. The art of jockeyship is to transmit confidence to mounts and have them enjoying experiences, get ‘em racing!
Century City is her best chance in a tight, competitive, Nursery Handicap over seven furlongs and over the same trip half an hour later Josephine is also booked for Gentlemen in an aged handicap. If it doesn’t happen today there are six weeks of 2017 left!
Ciaoadiosimdone is napped, must win, by default according to my time-handicap. Leicester stages a jumps meeting, Really Super looks a steal in the Juvenile Hurdle over two miles.
A difficult day but hopefully memorable!
1.00 Ciaoadiosimdone (nap);
3.00 Broadhaven Honey;
Leicester, 2.50 Really Super.
